New England is doughnut country. Abundant road side stands, farms and coffee shops all invite you to partake in a heavenly delight, the apple cider doughnut. We have created a dog friendly version that you can share with your dog. And don’t worry, this recipe calls for baking, not frying to be more healthy. You are eating apples, after all!
You will need a doughnut pan for this by the way! Find one here or shape by hand and place on non-stick cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray.
1 cup organic, all purpose flour
1 cup organic, whole wheat flour
1/4 cup powdered milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 cup New Hampshire apple cider (or your local cider)
2 beaten eggs
1 tablespoon local honey
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees. In a large bowl, stir together all flours, powdered milk, baking powder, and cinnamon. Make a hole in the center and pour in eggs, honey, and apple cider. Mix until well blended. Fill each hole in the doughnut pan 2/3 full.
Bake for 10-15 minutes in your preheated oven, or until the tops spring back with lightly touched. Allow doughnuts to cool before removing from pan, and never serve hot food to your dog.
