When you think of food in Pennsylvania, Philly Cheese Steak is likely to come to mind! According to Philadelphia’s official tourism site, Pat Olivieri invented the cheesesteak in the 1930s! Olivieri was a hot dog vendor in Philadelphia who decided to grill some beef from the butcher and put it on a roll. A cab driver caught a whiff and asked for a steak sandwich. Hmmm. Well, sounds delicious, but how can you make it dog friendly?
For our version, we have left off much of the extra fat, bread and onions of course to make it dog-friendly. If you make one for yourself, we suggest adding those elements back in!
Philly Cheese Steak For Dogs
1 boneless steak, grilled on both sides to well done.
1 slice of low-fat, mozzarella cheese
1 tablespoon, cooked,chopped, green pepper
1 cup cooked, brown rice
Grill the steak on both sides to well done. Place one slice of cheese on top of the steak with green pepper and let sit in the hot pan until cheese is melted. Take out of pan and let cool completely. Serve with a cup of brown rice. Leftovers may be refrigerated for up to two days.
